Overview: Established in 1972, the Department of Economics has distinguished itself as a leading centre of academic and research excellence. Renowned for its outstanding achievements, both academically and in extracurricular domains, the department continually sets benchmarks in educational excellence.

Academic Excellence

  • Among the first departments to launch a postgraduate (PG) programme in Economics in 1981.
  • Students consistently achieve top ranks in university examinations, significantly contributing to the institution's prestigious reputation.

Research and Faculty

  • Officially recognized as a Research Centre on December 7, 2023.
  • Currently, the department hosts two research supervisors guiding six active research scholars.
  • The faculty consists of seven highly qualified and experienced members dedicated to advancing knowledge and research capabilities.

Strategic Collaborations

  • In 2024, signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Lore & Ed Research Associates to boost methodological skills and research proficiency among faculty and students.

  • Economics Association: A vibrant, student-managed body supervised by faculty, aimed at fostering leadership, teamwork, coordination, and cooperation.
  • BOUGETTE Forum: An innovative platform designed for insightful discussions post-budget presentations, enhancing awareness of critical economic issues.
  • Population Education Club (PEC): Actively engages students in community-oriented activities including medical camps, socio-economic surveys, national and international event observances, poster competitions, and charitable activities benefiting local orphanages.
