Department of Economics

Department of Economics

Since its founding in 1972, the Department of Economics has emerged itself as a reputable department with its academic and extracurricular achievements. The department distinguished itself being one of the first few departments to offer a postgraduate (PG) program in 1981. Consistently securing top positions in university examinations, the students of the department bring laurels to the college every year and showcase its academic prowess. Further enriching its scholarly pursuits, the department is well on the way to attain the status of a Research Centre. At present, the department faculty comprises seven members with remarkable accomplishments.

We take pride in introducing BOUGETTE, a platform facilitating insightful discussions among staff and students on financial matters following budget presentations by both state and central government finance ministers. This initiative serves as a gateway to delve into critical economic topics.

Our Population Education Club (PEC) strives to foster a sense of social commitment among students through impactful initiatives like medical camps, socio-economic surveys, commemoration of significant national and international days, poster competitions, charity work in local orphanages and inspiring talks like 'OPPAM.'

ECOPEDIA: Since its inception, the department has consistently engaged in substantive dialogues on regional, national and international economic matters. The department is committed to sustain active dialogue among students on financial issues across the world through interactive sessions, national seminars, workshops and prestigious lectures, featuring distinguished speakers from industry and academia.

Our alumni association, OIKONOMIA, sponsors Inter-Collegiate Debate competitions which are conducted biennially and facilitates regular gatherings of graduates at least once a year. In 2022, we introduced SSC coaching, enrolling 50 students to assist them in pursuing their career aspirations. We also provide guidance to students interested in UGC-NET, Common University Entrance Test (CUET), IES (Indian Economic Services), KAS (Kerala Administrative Services) and similar examinations.
