Department of Physics

The Department of Physics has a glorious history of over four decades with many golden feathers in its cap. It is the first undergraduate department in the college, having started the B.Sc. Physics programme in 1976. Prof. P T Joseph, who was the first head of the department, also led the college as its principal from 1990 to 1998.

The department addresses the academic requirements of students who are specializing in Physics, as well as those enrolled in complementary courses and open courses. Presently there are 4 teaching staff and 2 non-teaching staff in the department. The department has very well equipped UG core and complementary laboratories, workshop and a conference hall. Since 2017, the department has been sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) through the FIST program. In 2020, a research laboratory (sponsored by DST - FIST) was established to facilitate advanced research endeavors in various essential areas of Physics. This sponsorship will continue for five years.
